Key takeaways from Containers Adoption & Use Cases 2019 Survey Results

Around Nov 2019, I have reached out to you all on Containers Adoption & Use Cases survey to evaluate how enterprises are currently using containers and what challenges, benefits they are experiencing. There were about 700+ responses, Thank you! everyone, who has participated, and here are the key takeaways from the survey results.

#1. Container volume is growing.

Container volumes are definitely growing. 29% of enterprises have containers over 100 deployed, and 17% have more than 15 – 50 containers deployed.

#2. Container environments are deployed mostly on Private Cloud.

Adoption is cross-platform, with respondents claiming container usage across private (52%), hybrid cloud (23%), public (17%), and traditional on-premises infrastructure (5%)

#3. Most of the Container usage is in Production.

We could see the container adoption has increased and more and more apps are moving to Production, with respondents stating that they are already in Production(41%), Cloud Native applications (30%) and it also facilitates Digital Transformation initiatives, Mobility Applications (11% each).

#4. Microservices is moving into the mainstream.

With the advent of containers/ container orchestration tools, Microservices adoption has increased (70%)

#5. Enterprises are actively exploring modernization of existing applications.

#6. Security, Data Management, costs are key concerns.

Security of the containers remains key concern & other concerns are related to Data Management and Costs.

#7. Microservices have moved from “cool concept” category to key technology.

Microservices and containers are going hand in hand, about 35% of organizations are using containers and 23% have said it is one of the key components in DevOps strategy.

#8. Containers enables portability.

Containers offer portability and agility in moving applications from your internal data center, and out to different cloud providers.

#9. Everyone is moving into Container Orchestration
