{"id":6387,"date":"2021-07-03T09:00:56","date_gmt":"2021-07-03T03:30:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.upnxtblog.com\/?p=6387"},"modified":"2021-07-02T18:15:09","modified_gmt":"2021-07-02T12:45:09","slug":"15-interesting-facts-about-kubernetes-and-cloud-native-operations-report-2021","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.upnxtblog.com\/index.php\/2021\/07\/03\/15-interesting-facts-about-kubernetes-and-cloud-native-operations-report-2021\/","title":{"rendered":"15 Interesting facts about Kubernetes and cloud-native operations report 2021"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class='booster-block booster-read-block'><\/div><p><strong>Canonical<\/strong> recently conducted a <a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntu.com\/kubernetes\/kubernetes-operations-survey\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">survey<\/a> to measure the usage of Kubernetes, Cloud-native technologies their goals, benefits, challenges, operators, advanced usage, edge, etc.,<a href=\"https:\/\/juju.is\/cloud-native-kubernetes-usage-report-2021\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Detailed report<\/a> includes responses to 50+ questions from ~1200 respondents and analysis from 7 industry experts<em>(this includes me as well, you can read the report for my commentary)<\/em>. In this post, we take look at 15 Interesting facts about Kubernetes and cloud-native operations report 2021.<\/p>\n<p>#1. <strong>Over 77.8 percent<\/strong> of respondents answered they utilize<strong> hybrid or multi-clouds for various use cases.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>#2.<strong> More than 21.4 percent<\/strong> of respondents said they&#8217;re in charge of a cluster <strong>with more than 500 nodes.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>#3 <strong>Almost 30 percent of the respondents&#8217; run applications on multiple environments<\/strong> and only 15.7 percent are all in on Kubernetes.<\/p>\n<p>#4. <strong>Top 3 cloud-native use cases<\/strong> <strong>are<\/strong> <strong>deploying or managing Kubernetes-as-a-Service (KaaS), re-architecting a proprietary solution into microservices, and moving the business from a closed-source to an open-source solution.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>#5. <strong>Nearly 55 percent<\/strong> of respondents think they lack<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.upnxtblog.com\/index.php\/2017\/11\/13\/kubernetes-platform-intro-key-concepts\/\"> Kubernetes<\/a> knowledge and experience in-house.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>#6. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.upnxtblog.com\/index.php\/2018\/10\/15\/managed-kubernetes-platforms-comparison-gke-vs-aks-vs-eks\/\"><strong>AWS<\/strong> <\/a>hosts over half of all Kubernetes clusters, followed by <strong>Azure<\/strong> (34.5%) and<strong> Google Cloud Platform<\/strong> (GCP) (24.6 percent).<\/p>\n<p>#7.<strong>26 percent<\/strong> of respondents have stated that they&#8217;re <strong>at least 4 versions behind the latest stable release<\/strong> (1.21)<\/p>\n<p>#8. Favorite distribution for local development remains to be <strong>Minikube<\/strong>(32.3 percent) followed by <strong>Docker Kubernetes<\/strong> (31.7 percent) and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.upnxtblog.com\/index.php\/2020\/10\/24\/set-up-microk8s-to-run-an-edge-application\/\">Microk8s<\/a><\/strong> (25.6 percent).<\/p>\n<p>#9. <strong>Close to 30 percent<\/strong> of respondents have stated that they&#8217;re using 1-10 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.upnxtblog.com\/index.php\/2019\/12\/02\/helm-3-0-0-is-outhere-is-what-has-changed\/\">Helm<\/a> charts in the last 90 days and <strong>around 28 percent<\/strong> have said it&#8217;s the most preferred way to <strong>operating, upgrading, and maintaining software on Kubernetes.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>#10.<strong>70 percent<\/strong> of respondents states that they&#8217;re using community-provided templates \/ playbooks \/scripts \/ packages.<\/p>\n<p>#11. <strong>More than 46.2 percent<\/strong> have stated that <strong>Security<\/strong> is the most important concern for the Ops team.<\/p>\n<p>#12. <strong>Nearly 22 percent<\/strong> of people think that Kubernetes can make coffee.<\/p>\n<p>#13. <strong>Only 37 percent<\/strong> of respondents use stateful applications. This got reduced from the previous year&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cncf.io\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/CNCF_Survey_Report_2020.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CNCF report.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>#14. <strong>Namespaces<\/strong> (63 percent) have made it to the top in the case of separating applications, followed by <strong>Separate clusters and Labels.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>#15. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.upnxtblog.com\/index.php\/2019\/01\/04\/implementing-secure-containers-using-gvisordocker-tutorial\/\"><strong>Security and compliance<\/strong><\/a> is the top priority for Kubernetes at the edge.
